I heard this verse a billion times growing up and yet never heard it once. “This is the day the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it” (Ps 118:24). Profound simplicity in this one sentence. Here we have a theology of the day informed by a theology of creation. Today is a day to rejoice because it is a created day. The text is very interesting, it is not a call to rejoice in God per se. It is a call to rejoice in the day formed by God.
Every new day is a creative act of God. Days don’t just come into existence, they are constructed by the Creator. He designs, shapes, and commands them into reality. Every sunrise is a prelude to this new creation. Each day holds fresh possibilities for joy and celebration. If we enter into the day with eyes wide open we will see grace and glory everywhere.
